Free FNP Flashcards for the AANP & ANCC Board Exams
These free FNP flashcards are built for students preparing for the AANP (FNP-C) or ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner board certification exams. Every card covers a high-yield topic that consistently appears on both exams — drug indications, pediatric medication considerations, and the eponymous clinical signs that frequently show up as board distractors.
You can also try our Free Question Bank sample.
The decks are made by Shaira Cohen, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, CNE — a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Educator who teaches Cohen Review’s full board prep courses. Every card is built from the same clinical and pedagogical foundation as Cohen Review’s paid offerings: no fluff, no out-of-scope content, just board-relevant material drilled the way active recall actually works.
How to use flashcards effectively for the NP boards. Flashcards are most powerful when you use them for spaced repetition and active recall — not for passive reading. Hit each card, commit to an answer in your head before tapping to reveal, mark whether you got it or missed it, and re-drill the missed ones until they’re locked in. The decks below have a built-in “drill missed” mode for exactly this. Aim for short, daily sessions (10–20 minutes) rather than long marathon sessions — the spaced exposure is what builds durable recognition for exam day.
A note on scope: flashcards build recognition — fast, accurate pattern matching. That’s a critical layer of board prep, but the AANP and ANCC also test clinical reasoning — multi-step, application-based questions where you have to integrate signs, symptoms, labs, and clinical context. Flashcards are necessary but not sufficient. Plan to pair daily flashcard drilling with a serious question bank or full review course as your exam date approaches (see “What to do after you’ve mastered the flashcards” below).
So how did you do? We’d love to hear your feedback.
